July 12th: The madness known as San Diego Comic-Con has begun. The Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego has been taken over by movie studios and the Convention Center is full to the brim with pop culture fans of all ages.
True Blood has a huge presence, with banners lining an entire hallway. I tried to donate blood (low iron so it didn’t work but still got a shirt for beifng poked a lot) and HBO has done a great job swagging out the blood drive. Saturday is the big True Blood panel day.
Out on the con floor there is a Falling Skies exhibit where you can experience the fear of being chased by a Skitter. AMC has a booth where you can take a picture as one of Michonne’s pets. Yes, the armless pets. Oh, the wonders of photography!
Outside the action kept going, with many costumed fans parading the streets of Downtown San Diego. Even Jabba the Hut got into the action!
Last night Comic-Con attendees were treated to the inaugural Dawn of the Con at Petco Park. Rob Zombie and VH1 Classic played host to thousands of fans who spent the balmy San diego evening rocking out to classic metal anthems. Gene Simmons of KISS even stopped by.
While that group of fans relaxed under the stars, another group ran for their lives as past of the Walking Dead Experience, where fans of the show fought their way through an obstacle course peppered with zombies chasing after them. I watched crews setting it up and let me tell you–it was amazing.
Keep checking back for more updates live from the Con!
