Recently, director/producer Tim Burton spoke with MTV News about more than his upcoming film based on the cult classic television series Dark Shadows. Burton confirmed he’s been considering a follow up film to his own cult classic, the 1988 horror comedy Beetlejuice, staring Michael Keaton.
“I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to [“Vampire Hunter” writer] Seth [Grahame-Smith], “If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I’ll look at it freshly.” In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it.”
And, in spite of the fact that the first film was released over two decades ago, Keaton reportedly would still have the opportunity to reprise the title role.
“Michael was so great in it,” he told MTV. “I’m sure he’d strangely tap right back into it.”
Keaton also starred in the two Burton offerings to the Batman franchise, Batman, opposite Jack Nicholson’s unforgettable performance as The Joker, and Batman Returns, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny DeVito and Christopher Walken.
Burton’s latest film, Dark Shadows hits theaters on May 11th of this year.
