Being Yourself

There are times in our lives when we are forced to look in the mirror and stare down who we are…who we have become. We may not like what we see in the reflection, but ignoring those imperfections doesn’t make them go away. Sometimes we need to do an about-face straight into the arms of loved ones who will help us “see”. What we also don’t realize is just how important friendship is to our survival, until we nearly lose it. This week’s episode of Being Human finds Sally imprisoned by her own desired seclusion. Josh and Aidan must save her from herself before they all suffer the consequences.

Murphy’s Law

We open this week’s episode with Sally lying catatonic on her ‘spot’ on the staircase, in the exact position as when she died. Josh and Aidan have circled her with salt due to the aggressive behavior she displayed before passing out. They are at a loss on how to help her and can only think of one other person who might know what to do…Zoe. The only problem is that during her demonic fit, Sally shredded Zoe’s ghost boyfriend, Nick. To make things worse, time is of the essence because the full moon is only hours away from rising on Josh and Aidan is going through ‘live’ blood withdrawals.

Aidan searches out Zoe in the hospital where they work. Not really a good idea since there are humans everywhere and bags of donated blood wafting through the halls like a big juicy steak in front of a hungry dog. Aidan endures and somehow manages to convince Zoe to help, but leaves the part out about how Sally shredded her boyfriend’s existence.

When Zoe arrives she sees Sally and feels foolish because she should have seen this coming. She explains to the fellas that the Reaper must be Sally’s alter ego, a sort of defense mechanism created by Sally to deal with the trauma of being a ghost and the wrong-doings she had committed. Zoe believes that the Reaper inside of Sally must be stopped or else he will take over her. They must communicate with her.

Silly Sally

So ‘where’ is Sally? She is actually in a better place, so it would seem. She is wearing a fashionable purple fitted dress. Her hair is perfectly straightened. The apartment is immaculate and worthy of a home design magazine cover. She even has a fiancé…Reaper (whom she refers to as Scott).

While Sally checks her email on her laptop she keeps receiving redundant and annoying IM’s from a guy named Aidan, telling her that he is ‘there’ for her and that she needs to ‘come back’. She responds back insisting that the guy has the wrong Sally, and gets so peeved that she shuts down the computer…but the dang thing keeps chiming.

On the ‘other’ side, Aidan is shouting at Sally’s motionless body, but the entire house is shaking. Zoe reassures Aidan that this is a sure sign that Sally can hear him. On Sally’s side, she is getting frustrated by the IM messages. Reaper reassures Sally that it is just a virus and he will take care of it. Back on the other side, all of the shaking has stopped, but every single door and window has been slammed shut. Zoe, Aidan, and Josh have been locked in. There is no escape because there is some supernatural force that is preventing them from being able to leave the house. This is not a good thing because Aidan will want to snack on Zoe and Josh is getting ready to ‘turn’.

Sally confides to Reaper that she keeps hearing and seeing thing. She believes that maybe the house is haunted. Reaper convinces her that it is not and that he wants them to move on and leave the house to live somewhere else.

I’ll Stop the World and Meld with You

Zoe now wants to do what she calls a ‘mind meld’ on Sally. She says that she is able to tap into the conscious portion of Sally’s energy. Zoe attempts to meld, but Reaper sees what she is doing and takes over Sally’s body on their side. With white-out eyes, Sally wakes up and screams at Zoe to stop. It is obvious to Zoe, Aidan, and Josh that Sally is possessed by Reaper. Sally rambles on and on about some terribly intimate secrets that Aidan and Josh carry, and even tells Zoe that she shredded Nick. Sally then falls back into her catatonic stupor and Zoe has now lost any desire to help Sally. The clock is now ticking away and Josh is getting closer to turning into a werewolf and Aidan is starving for human blood. They have no choice but to tell Zoe about their supernatural secret so that Zoe has reason again to reach Sally and save them all from certain destruction.

Zoe attempts the meld and enters Sally’s perfect world in the middle of her engagement party. Zoe tries to convince her that this is not reality and that she needs to return home to Aidan and Josh. Suddenly, Zoe notices that she has two bleeding bite marks on her wrist. Back on the ‘other’ side, Aidan has lost control of himself and is feeding on Zoe’s wrist. Josh has no choice but to stop his attempt at locking himself in their fridge for his ‘turn’ so that he can pull Aidan off of Zoe. Josh tries to talk some sense into Aidan, but the hunger is overwhelming.

Blood Buddies

Josh offers his wrist to Aidan but Aidan refuses because he has always been told that vampires never drink werewolf blood. When Aidan can’t come up with a reason for this, he decides to give it a shot. Worst idea ever! Aidan braves the awful smell/taste of Josh’s blood. He gets a quick high, but then collapses and is retching in pain. He screams so loudly that Sally can even hear him. Reaper pleads with Sally to stay, but the pull of Aidan and Josh’s need for her is so strong that she lets Zoe guide her back to reality. Sally is back and the supernatural lockdown is released. Josh is free to leave the house and ‘turn’ somewhere safely away from people. Aidan is so sick from the werewolf blood that whatever hunger he had is now replaced by a belly ache. Sally tries to apologize to Zoe about killing her boyfriend, but Zoe says she will NEVER forgive her…NEVER!

Just when you think Reaper is gone…he isn’t. Sally sees him and tells him that she thought she had made it clear that he needs to leave…but he tells her that he is a part of her. The next time she slips and falls, he will be the only one to catch her.

Quotable Quotes:

Sally narrating:  “You can’t save yourself if you don’t know the danger you’re in.”

Josh to Zoe: “It’s…it’s…I’m sure it’ll pass. It’s just Sally being Sally.”
Aidan to Zoe: “Silly Sally.”
Josh to Zoe: “So silly.”

Reaper to Sally: “No one can trick you better than you.”

Zoe to Josh and Aidan: “I’m super awesome at being a freak.”

Josh to Aidan: “Really? You’re just gonna leave Zoe there with Miss Dead By Dawn Swallow Your Soul?”

Josh to himself: “I’m gonna change in the friggin fridge.”

Josh to Aidan: “If this is one of those vampire Jim Crow laws, you need to get over it. You need blood and I have blood and Zoe is not an option.”
